Teachers construct writing units to include Social Studies and Science content, as well as teaching students writing content.  

Each writing piece generally follows a process of:

Brainstorming > Drafting > Editing > Revising > Publishing

You can ask your child which part of the writing process they are working on and ask their teacher to see samples of their work.

We use Writing Units based on the curriculum, which was specifically designed to reinforce Common Core Standards.

The Writing Standards show selected standards, or topics, that are most important for your child to learn in his or her grade.  They may be included in numerous writing units.

The standards appear on the report card like this:


The first number, 2, is the grade.  W stands for Writing.  4 is the specific topic.  You can find the listing below, so that you know exactly which topic your student is working on.
