Sight Words

Sight Words are short words that appear very often in easier books.  Students must be able to read and recognize these words right away, without having to stop and think about them or sound them out.

At Archer, we teach 170 of the most important Sight Words throughout kindergarten and first grade.  After first grade, we continue to reinforce and review words that students still struggle with.

The Sight Words section of the Report Card shows the top words that your child should be working on at home.  Along with the Report Card, you should have received another piece of paper.

To help your child, start by practicing the words on the Report Card.  If they do well with those words, you can use the list above (front AND back) to teach even more words.  Use the index cards provided by Archer Elementary to make flash cards for words your child still needs to practice.
