We have a NEW SCHOOL SCHEDULE for 2016-2017!

School Hours for Students: 8:20 am to 2:40 pm

Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 7:45-8:15 every day. Please do not bring or allow students to walk to school earlier than 7:45. There are not adults present to supervise children before 7:45.

Students will go to their classrooms with their teachers at 8:20.  Cafeteria doors are locked at 8:25; students arriving after that time must go to the main entrance on Archer Street.

Dismissal time is 2:40 every day.  Students in Kindergarten-Third Grade will be picked up from the cafeteria.  Students in Fourth and Fifth Grade will be dismissed from the recess yard whenever weather permits.

 Outdoor Play Policy:

The Chancellor’s policy states that children go outside for recess as long as the temperature (with wind chill) is above zero degrees.  On cold days (20-32 degrees), we will allow students with appropriate cold weather clothes (warm coat, hat and gloves) to go outside for exercise. Any student who is uncomfortable or has a health issue can choose to stay inside the cafeteria and read a book.  On days when the temperature is below 20 degrees, Mr. Haviland and Ms. Dorr will determine if the students will go outside for recess.

Healthy Snack Policy:

All students at PS 531 are provided with a healthy breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack every day. If your child does not eat school lunch, you may send them with healthy food from home.  We do not allow unhealthy snacks (chips, cookies, candy, donuts, etc.) or sugary drinks (soda, tropical fantasy, Hawaiian punch) in the lunchroom.  Many students eat only their chips and cookies, instead of the healthy lunch and salad bar provided.  Several students have misplaced their snacks or had disagreements with other students about sharing snacks. If your child brings unhealthy snacks to the lunchroom, they will be asked to put them away. If they are asked a second time, we will take the item away and a parent can pick it up at the end of the day.  Some students may be allowed to have snack time in the afternoon or during the afterschool program. Those snacks must stay in backpacks until the appropriate time.

The school provides access to a great resource, Raz-Kids, which has animated books for students to read and listen to that are exactly on their level. Please check it out!
If you are trying to access Raz-Kids on a tablet (iPad, Kindle, or Android device) please click here to download the appropriate app so that you are able to get on.

Third Grade, Fourth Grade and Fifth Grade students will take the English Language Arts test and the Math test based on more rigorous Common Core standards. For more information about the Common Core standards, click here.

If you are a new parent or student, please explore the website to learn more about Archer Elementary.   We will be starting a new round of Friday enrichment classes in January.
