Upcoming Holidays/In-Service Days

April 25th-April 29th - Spring Break!

 Outdoor Play Policy:

The Chancellor’s policy states that children go outside for recess as long as the temperature (with wind chill) is above zero degrees.  On cold days (20-32 degrees), we will allow students with appropriate cold weather clothes (warm coat, hat and gloves) to go outside for exercise. Any student who is uncomfortable or has a health issue can choose to stay inside the cafeteria and read a book.  On days when the temperature is below 20 degrees, Mr. Haviland and Ms. Dorr will determine if the students will go outside for recess.

Healthy Snack Policy:

All students at PS 531 are provided with a healthy breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack every day. If your child does not eat school lunch, you may send them with healthy food from home.  We do not allow unhealthy snacks (chips, cookies, candy, donuts, etc.) or sugary drinks (soda, tropical fantasy, Hawaiian punch) in the lunchroom.  Many students eat only their chips and cookies, instead of the healthy lunch and salad bar provided.  Several students have misplaced their snacks or had disagreements with other students about sharing snacks. If your child brings unhealthy snacks to the lunchroom, they will be asked to put them away. If they are asked a second time, we will take the item away and a parent can pick it up at the end of the day.  Some students may be allowed to have snack time in the afternoon or during the afterschool program. Those snacks must stay in backpacks until the appropriate time.
